Pros and Cons of Accepting the Micro-credential
Overview
The Leader in the Global Enterprise Experience micro‑credential is an optional, NZQA‑approved academic qualification issued by Victoria University of Wellington. Only participants who meet all academic requirements are eligible to be offered it.
This guide outlines the key considerations to help you decide whether the micro‑credential is right for you.
Cons – Reasons You May Choose NOT to Take the Micro‑credential
- Cost: The micro‑credential costs USD 190 (approx. NZD 300), paid directly to Victoria University of Wellington. The micro‑credential is a separate academic qualification with its own fee. It is not included in any scholarship, sponsorship, or employer payment for the GEE or the Leader Programme.
- You already hold valuable recognition: All leaders receive the Global Enterprise Experience Leadership Certificate and Letter of Commendation. These are internationally recognised through the programme’s United Nations Alliance of Civilizations Intercultural Innovation Award, and for many participants, this is all they need.
- Relevance: The micro‑credential may not be necessary for your future study, career plans, or professional goals.
Pros – Benefits of the Micro‑credential
- A standalone academic qualification: You can add it to your CV, résumé, and LinkedIn profile as a formal, university‑issued credential.
- Useful for future opportunities: It may support applications for immigration, postgraduate study, promotion, or employment.
- High academic level: The micro‑credential is worth 15 points at NZQA Level 9, equivalent to a full course at Executive MBA / PhD level. It may be credited toward other qualifications, at the discretion of the receiving programme director.
- International recognition: Victoria University of Wellington is ranked in the top 2% of universities worldwide, and New Zealand’s international quality‑assurance agreements ensure global acceptance.
- Secure and verifiable: The micro‑credential is issued on a platform that is authentic, tamper‑evident, and legally valid.
Is the Micro‑credential Required?
No. The micro‑credential is completely optional. Many participants choose not to take it because their GEE Leadership Certificate and Letter of Commendation already meet their needs.
